Making a TV Picture Frame for Gallery Wall
Here’s how we made a simple wooden frame to disguise our wall mounted TV to blend into our gallery wall. Watch the YouTube video below or read on for step by step instructions!
After measuring the outside dimensions of our wall mounted TV, we picked up some one by six (1” x 6”) poplar boards about four feet long from our local hardware store.
We chose to use poplar because of the weight. Since our plan was for the TV to hold the weight of the frame, we didn’t want to use anything too heavy.
We cut the boards down to the required dimensions using our miter saw.
Using a square to make sure the boards are perpendicular, we applied wood glue between the mating surfaces and used our brad nailer to nail the boards together, making a box.
Most TVs have a receiving sensor located somewhere around the TV. Ours was located on the bottom corner of the TV, so we notched a relief using our router and cleaning it up with a chisel.
Once we got the main frame assembly complete, we sanded using our random orbital sander to 120 grit.
To make the front face of the frame smoother, we cut two inch (2”) strips to length and 45 degrees on each end.
Just like we assembled the main frame assembly, we used wood glue and our brad nailer to attach the trim pieces around the front.
With the proper dimension, we welded the two pieces together making one long piece.
Installation was very simple because you just need to slip the whole frame over the TV and enjoy your show.
We felt like this simple wooden frame because it adds a little decoration to an otherwise industrial feel of the TV and wall mounted bracket.
