Our garage was cluttered with scattered scrap wood and piled junk. To reclaim the space, we built a mobile lumber cart using leftover plywood scraps.
Materials used
Kreg circular saw track, Makita cordless drill and driver set, 1.5" Power Pro screws, wood glue, locking casters, washers, ¾" and ½" plywood.
Building process
We started by measuring and cutting the front, back, side panels, and divider pieces, using a circular saw with a track attachment for clean, straight cuts.
Assembly steps:
- Attached sides to the back panel using a carpenter's square and clamps to keep everything square
- Predrilled and screwed panels together with 1.5" screws
- Used plywood strips as thickness guides to center screws along edges
- Attached the front panel with wood glue and screws
- Traced the perimeter on plywood for the bottom panel, cut it out, and secured it
Wheels and dividers:
- Mounted locking casters to the bottom panel using washers for a secure fit
- Inserted divider panels using spacer pieces for even spacing
- Drilled from outside through to interior dividers, using a tape measure and scribed lines as guides
The finished cart provides organized storage for wood scraps and rolls around wherever it's needed.
