A simple wooden frame to disguise a wall-mounted TV and integrate it into a gallery wall.
Materials
One-by-six (1"x6") poplar boards, about four feet long, wood glue, brad nails. We picked poplar for its light weight, since the TV itself supports the frame.
Construction
- Measure: get the outside dimensions of your wall-mounted TV
- Cut: miter saw the boards to size
- Assemble the main frame: square up the joints, glue the mating surfaces, and brad nail into a box structure
- Create a sensor relief: most TVs have a receiver sensor, often in a bottom corner; router and chisel out a relief area so the frame doesn't block it
- Sand: random orbital sander down to 120 grit
- Add trim: cut 2" strips at 45-degree angles on each end and attach around the front face with glue and brad nails
- Finish: apply the finish of your choice
Installation
Slip the completed frame over the TV. It adds a decorative touch while the TV stays fully functional underneath.
